I have had the opportunity to author and contribute to various publications through my 25+ professional years.  But it wasn't until my association with Chesapeake Computer Consultants (also known as Chesapeake Network Solutions and Mentor Technologies) in Annapolis MD that I actually helped to create a real book.  Chesapeake taught me what networking was truly about.  It's where I learned to spell TCP/IP and Cisco in the same breath, enough so that I coauthored Cisco LAN Switching with Kennedy Clark.

Terry Slattery (CCIE 1026, and founder of Netcordia), the founder of Chesapeake, hired me as an instructor at Chesapeake even before I knew much about TCP/IP.  To this day, I don't know what he specifically saw that justified my employment, but that opportunity enabled me to enjoy my current career path.  I rubbed shoulders with brilliant Cisco experts at Chesapeake whereby just breathing their aura one couldn't help but absorb morsels about Cisco technology.

I felt privileged when Kennedy approached me about coauthoring Cisco LAN Switching which focused on the Cisco Catalyst product line. They say that you learn more by teaching and writing about a subject.  That clearly happened for me while writing this book. This book is a great insomnia cure though.  Either read it or drop it on your head and you're bound to sleep sooner or later. :)
